Principles for a Successful Marriage

“Know better, do better . . .”

Maya Angelou Quote: “When you know better you do better.” (24 wallpapers) - Quotefancy

Have you ever heard the saying; “When you know better, do better?” I want to add to this, by saying when you know better, do better, and not only that, help someone else to do better. Many of us have been blessed by people who have learned some valuable lessons, but they didn’t keep it to themselves, they shared it. What are some lessons that God has taught you? What mistakes, challenges, or difficulties have you had that have caused you to do things differently?

The late Bishop Lewis Tait, Sr. used to say, “It takes a wise man to learn from his mistakes, but an even wiser man will learn from someone else’s mistakes.” I don’t know about you, but I don’t want my children or anyone else to make the same mistakes that I did. Therefore, I know that I have to share what I know to help others.

When you look over your life, I am sure that you have knowledge on various topics such as; marriage, money, relationships, careers, health, etc. If each one of us were to share one lesson learned, we can help somebody. I want to specifically share on the issue of money. I had a student loan from attending college at Morgan State University. I graduated, got a job, started paying my loan, and when times got hard, I had the loan payments deferred. Does anyone know what I am talking about? When things got better, I started paying the student loans again, and needless to say, I have been paying them for many years! When my daughter got ready to attend college about 3 years ago (I was still paying my student loans), I had an epiphany! The thought came to me, you do not want your daughter to go to college and have to pay student loans for 20 plus years. Therefore, you must do things differently, and teach her to do better.

Long story short, the Lord made a way for me to pay off my student loan debt last year. Hallelujah!!! I am also praising God because this week my daughter completed undergraduate school and is graduating DEBT FREE! With the help of the Lord (scholarships, cash and a small loan that she paid back herself), I was able to do better and show my daughter how to do better. As a result, she gets to start her life after college better than I did because she is starting DEBT FREE! When God teaches us how to do better, we must do better, and share it!

James 4:17 NKJV says, “Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.”

Until next week . . .
